project objectives

Our Comenius project: „Imagine my country! – Cultural awareness across Europe.“

The project aimed to promote the cultural awareness of students both as citizens of a country and the European Union in order to develop understanding, respect and tolerance for each other.

We pursued a dual strategy to achieve this objective: On the one hand, the students dealt with the question about constitutive and typical features which a country should have in order to be considered as an ideal country. Working on this subject, the students in particular focused on the characteristics of an ideal – European – country. Accordingly, they formulated fundamentally important values for a European country. They also worked on specific issues, for example how an ideal health or education system should be organised. In addition, the requirements for an ideal citizen were defined. Last but not least, the question was discussed how the future of the European Union should ideally look like.

On the other hand, the students carried out practical on-site research by investigating the real constitutive and typical features of European countries using the example of their home towns and the cities of their partner schools. Together with their European peers, the students compared, evaluated and presented the results of their theoretical and practical work. Thus they learned a lot about differences and similarities between European countries and discussed the question whether there are certain characteristics which connect all countries with each other.

A virtual Moodle work platform ensured the continuous communication and cooperation of all students and teachers, with English as the working language.

All results are summarized in a booklet and are being presented on several websites.

Being confronted with the diverse ways of thinking and behaving of their peers at the European partner schools, the students participated in an active form of intercultural dialogue and could train and improve their language skills.
